1 Scope and operator
This policy explains how the operator of HiClip (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects personal information when you use the HiClip iOS app, this website, and related services (together, the “Service”).
It applies to personal information about identified or identifiable individuals. It does not apply to third-party services you reach through the Service, such as the App Store or a connected publishing platform; those services have their own privacy policies.
By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read this policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the Service.
2 Information we collect
We collect information needed to create your account, process video, and operate the Service:
- Account and identity: display name, email address, and a hashed password. With Sign in with Apple, we receive the Apple user identifier, email address, and whether the address is a private relay address.
- Device and logs: an app-generated device identifier, device name, OS version, last-active time, request time, endpoint, result, error information, and request identifiers.
- Uploaded video: source files, transcoded previews, and exported clips.
- Speech and text output: transcripts, candidate titles, summaries, ranking reasons, risk warnings, clip boundaries, and caption data.
- Review and usage records: project details, accepted or removed clips, review decisions, adjustments, export history, and audit logs.
- Transactions and membership: order identifiers, subscription status and expiry, Apple transaction evidence and server notifications, credit balance, and credit usage.
- Support messages: content you send us, such as account identifiers, problem descriptions, screenshots, or attachments.
We do not collect your card number. iOS purchases are handled by Apple, and we receive only transaction and entitlement information needed to provide the purchase.
Do not upload sensitive personal information, such as biometric data, health data, financial accounts, precise location, or information about children under 14. Video may contain other people’s likeness, voice, or names; make sure you have the rights and have given any required notices.
3 How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Provide the core Service: upload and storage, transcription, candidate selection and ranking, review, subtitles, export, publishing, credits, and membership.
- Create and secure accounts, manage devices, prevent fraud and abuse, and investigate security events.
- Respond to support requests and resolve disputes.
- Improve reliability, performance, and processing quality using aggregated, de-identified, or anonymized statistics.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from courts or authorities.
We do not use automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects. Clip recommendations and rankings are suggestions for you to review, not decisions about your rights.
4 Sharing and service providers
We use service providers only as necessary to operate the Service. They may process information only on our instructions and may not use it for their own purposes. Categories include:
- Apple: Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, subscription management, and transaction verification.
- Cloud object storage: private storage of source video, previews, exports, and object metadata, accessed through time-limited signed links.
- Speech recognition: audio and transcripts, processed by a third-party provider such as Deepgram or by our self-hosted service.
- Language models: transcripts and structured clip context, processed by a third-party provider such as OpenAI or by a self-hosted model.
- Infrastructure: cloud servers, databases, caches, and media processing such as FFmpeg.
We do not sell personal information, provide it to advertisers, or use it for advertising. We do not publicly disclose personal information except where required by law or with your separate consent.
If a merger, restructuring, acquisition, or insolvency requires transferring personal information, we will notify you of the recipient and require it to remain bound by this policy.
6 Storage, cross-border transfer, and retention
We prioritize storing personal information and media in the People’s Republic of China. Speech recognition and clip analysis may be performed by providers outside China. Where cross-border transfer occurs, we will tell you the recipient, purpose, method, and information categories, and obtain separate consent or take another lawful measure such as standard contracts, an impact assessment, or a security assessment.
We retain information only as long as needed:
- Account and identity: while your account exists; deleted or anonymized after closure.
- Video, previews, transcripts, clips, and exports: until you delete the project or close your account.
- Membership and transaction records: for the period required by e-commerce, tax, and consumer-protection law.
- Logs and audit records: for the shortest period needed for security, troubleshooting, and compliance.
Backup rotation may delay complete deletion. During that period, backup copies are kept only for storage and security and are deleted when the backup rotates. Copies you saved to Photos, shared with others, or published to a third party are outside our control.
7 Security
We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures, including HTTPS/TLS in transit, private object storage with time-limited signed links, Argon2 password hashing, hashed refresh tokens, least-privilege access control, audit records for administrative actions, and confidentiality requirements for personnel.
If a personal-information breach, tampering, or loss occurs, we will activate incident response, take remedial action, notify you of the basic facts, likely impact, measures taken, and steps you can take, and report to regulators as required.
No internet transmission or storage method is completely secure. Protect your account and device, do not share credentials, and contact us immediately if you notice unauthorized access.
8 Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access, a copy, correction, supplementation, deletion, restriction, or an explanation of our processing. You may withdraw consent for processing based on consent, and you may close your account.
- Most account, project, and clip information can be viewed or deleted directly in the app.
- To close your account, use Account & Plan → Delete user, or email us. Account closure permanently deletes your account, projects, and files and cannot be undone.
- Closing your account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Cancel it separately in App Store settings.
- We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. We normally respond within 15 business days.
- You will not be denied service or discriminated against for exercising these rights.
If you believe our processing harms your rights, contact us or complain to the competent personal-information regulator.
9 Children
The Service is intended for adults. You must be at least 18, or use the Service with guardian consent if you are between 14 and 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14. If you are a guardian and believe a child has provided information without consent, contact us and we will delete it.
10 AI-generated output
HiClip uses AI for speech recognition, clip selection and ranking, and title or summary generation. Outputs may contain errors, omissions, or bias and are provided for reference only. They are not factual confirmation or professional advice.
We label AI-generated or synthesized content as required by law. You must review clips before exporting or publishing and must comply with platform rules on AI-generated content. Do not rely on AI output for legal, medical, financial, or other professional decisions.
11 Content rights and prohibited use
You may not upload, process, export, or publish video that you do not own or have not been authorized to use. This includes films, TV shows, sports events, paid courses, other creators’ videos, and content reposted from another platform.
Editing, removing watermarks, changing subtitles, speeding up footage, or calling the result a “re-cut”, “commentary”, or “reaction” does not grant you a license. Unauthorized use may infringe copyright and may lead to content removal, account restriction or termination, and legal liability for the uploader.
12 Changes, third parties, and contact
We may update this policy as the Service and the law change. The updated version will be published in the Service with a new effective date. Material changes will be communicated prominently and, where required, consent will be obtained again.
Third-party services and links have their own privacy policies. We do not control their processing.
This policy is governed by the laws of the People’s Republic of China. Questions, requests, or complaints: heartwaveai@163.com. We normally respond within 15 business days.
